Sally Bowers, Director
Sally has taught music at all levels through college students and senior adults. She was a member of the faculty of Lake Forest College for over 25 years. Sally is a 25 year founding member of the Lake Forest Civic Orchestra and has served in virtually all of its officer positions including president. She also played in the Lake Forest Symphony for 10 years prior to that. She is a life member of the National Flute Association, conducted the National High School Flute Choir at a national convention, and is a founding and life member of the Chicago Flute Club. Sally is the Founder and Director of the North Shore New Horizons Band which is in its 16th year. She was also the Director of the New Horizons Band at the DePaul University School of Music, Community Music Division for five years. She founded the New Horizons Band at the Music Institute of Chicago, one of the first in Illinois and was its Director for over 5 years. She conducted over 50 programs during her tenure. She has taught New Horizons band classes in many locations on the North Shore and across the midwest. She has served on the Board of the New Horizons International Music Association and as its Secretary. Sally is listed in the International Who’s Who in Music, the Outstanding Elementary Teachers of America and received a commendation from the National Flute Association. She consistently adjudicates many of the prestigious competitions in the area. Sally and her husband have two married children and two very small grandchildren. She enjoys travel, exercising, bicycle riding, her miniature schnauzer and raising koi fish.
